Kerala, historically known asKeralam, is anIndian stateinSouth Indiaon theMalabar coast. It was formed on 1 November 1956 following theStates Reorganisation Actby combiningMalayalam-speaking regions.Kerala is thethirteenth largest state by populationand is divided into 14districtswith the capital beingThiruvananthapuram. Malayalam is the most widely spoken language and is also the official language of the state.
